The Octopus Project: Music is Happiness

If not happiness, at least zen.

Audio Bullys: Shot You Down

Oh, it’s a little bit familiar, a little bit new.

Waxolutionists: Feet Don't Fail Me

That’s what I was saying to myself today as I got caught in a rainstorm while carrying a big bag of paper products.

The White Stripes: Hypnotise

I WANNA STARE AT FLASHING LIGHTS AND WAVY LINES. I like the White Stripes best when they’re being raucous or putting out sex tapes. MEG WHITE, DESPITE THE ISSUES OF BETRAYED TRUST AND PRIVACY, I THINK YOU SHOULD OWN THAT TAPE.

Dr. Dre: Forgot About Dre

Who’s the doctor that told you to smoke trees for breakfast?

McLusky: KKKitchens What Were You Thinking?

For a subtle treatise against racism, this song blows past most other songs like they were in the slow lane. Which is why it's hard to catch all of the valuable sociological content.

DJ Shadow: Fixed Income

Why is it I have six pairs of shorts, and the button has popped off all of my green shorts (three pairs), but not off of any of my plaid shorts, khaki shorts, or white shorts?

The Clash: London Calling

A notable video from before the time when they really knew how to make videos.

The Neutral: Hey Ash, Where Are We?

This song is sad because you know what sorts of things are going to happen to the person who asks “Hey Ash, where are we?”

The Thermals: An Endless Supply

The Thermals had a LOUD phase and they had a sweet phase, and this song was definitely from their energy drinks period.

Eels: Dog Faced Boy

We all know a dog faced boy, some of us know a horse faced girl. A chicken necked woman. A stork legged dude. Vultures and snakes.

The Talking Heads: I'm Not in Love

I learned to be an appreciator of live music from a different version of this song (which I’m sure I’ll go into at some point) but the Talking Heads version is, I have to admit, sexier.

Torn Main Vain: Breed

If you know a better Nirvana cover, please let me know, because I can’t remember having heard one.

Cypress Hill: Money

If you know a better Pink Floyd cover, please let me know, because I can’t remember having heard one.

Bauhaus: St. Vitus Dance

Fuckin’ cape-wearing goth kids.

Foetus: The Need Machine

I can’t even possibly imagine how Jim Thirwell was able to get David Bowie to show up in this video.

Balkan Beat Box: La Bush Resistance

Good job resisting that trainwreck.

J Dilla: Don't Cry

If you know a better Guns N’ Roses cover, please let me know, because I can’t remember having heard one.

David Bowie: Rebel Rebel

I can’t even possibly imagine how David Bowie was able to get Jim Thirlwell to show up in this video.
