Being only slightly younger than you are, I experienced Marilyn Manson at a very ... impressionable age. I won't say that I every enjoyed the music (I did not, with the exception of maybe The Dope Show), but I can tell you I was mesmerized watching him on TRL.
And I have a theory, and she might not ever admit it, but I think Lady GaGa was very influenced by him. The spectacle, the performance, the "it's good to be different and weird" vibe. Even the weird prosthetic body appendages -- he did it first, when she was an impressionable teenager like me.
